Application case study of waste heat recovery systems forwinter insulation of diesel generators in data centers

This paper proposes to recover the waste heat of the air conditioning and refrigeration system of data centers in northern regions and use it for the winter insulation of the jacket water of outdoor diesel generators to ensure the rapid start of diesel generators. Taking an actual application data center as a case, the design and operation principle, technical route, and specific design and implementation scheme of the waste heat recovery system are presented. The economic and energy-saving effects of the waste heat recovery system are analysed. The results show that the energy-saving rate of the diesel generator insulation waste heat recovery system is as high as 72.1%, the annual operation cost savings are 226 700 yuan, and the static investment payback period is 3.8 years. This waste heat recovery system has the advantages of low initial investment, convenient implementation, remarkable effect, and quick return. It can be promoted in data centers in northern regions.
